Task Modeling

This research area includes developing or designing new assessment tasks (for example, in terms of content, medium of administration, or scoring) or new ways of constructing current tasks. The tasks may be multiple-choice, constructed-response, or short-answer items; or they may be more elaborate tasks such as the performance-based assessments or portfolios that are used in alternate assessments. This area includes research on tasks that would not necessarily be considered for use in an assessment instrument, but are related to assessment instrument tasks—such research is useful when the standard assessment tasks are meant to measure skills derived from more authentic "real-world" tasks.
