Common Core State Standards - Implications and Measured Progress's Approach

Presenter: Dirk Mattson

The Common Core State Standards are being adopted by most states, as well as consortia charged with developing high-stakes assessments aimed to measure student mastery of the Common Core. Now, districts and schools must adapt their curricula, instruction, and assessments to these new standards. In this session, we'll share our perspective regarding the fundamental implications of the Common Core and the need for fresh assessment content built to - not just aligned with - the Common Core, an effort now underway at Measured Progress.

Topics will include:

  • Why Measured Progress is building new items, rather than retrofitting existing items to the Common Core.
  • Implications for item development, with some examples of new items that effectively assess the Common Core.
  • Field testing opportunities for schools and districts.
