Bureau of Indian Education (BIE)
In 2009, the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) awarded Measured Progress a contract to provide technical assistance to selected tribes in the development of an assessment system in support of tribes' pursuit of an alternate definition of Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).
Assistance is provided to tribes wishing to waive part or all of the AYP definition found in the Accountability Workbook of the states in which the school(s) are located and ranges from developing content standards based on native cultures to alternate assessments, such as oral interviews. The design and development of the assessment system is aligned with the standards for Native Language, as developed and approved by individual tribes.
