"This experience has impacted my teaching in terms of methods and strategies more positively than anything else in the first six years I have taught."

As practice, formative assessment gives both teachers and students the feedback necessary to identify knowledge gaps and move students forward in their learning. Working in partnership with Michigan-based coaches, our specialists are training coaches and teachers how to embed formative assessment practices in schools throughout the state.

Now in year two of the project, the program has scaled up.

In 2008, Measured Progress first trained 30 Michigan coaches and 125 teachers/administrators.

This year, 100 coaches and 600 to 800 teachers and administrators will participate in the program, affecting thousands of students.

In the months following Measured Progress’s initial training, coaches and learning teams directed their own monthly, site-based meetings focused on implementing classroom formative assessment strategies. Seventy-three percent of participants indicated that their modification of classroom assessment was moderately to significantly successful.
